If you are looking for something fun to do, or a new theme for your baby shower, try creating special and unique baby shower poetry. Poetry can be romantic, sweet, silly, and fun. Make it a contest and central theme for the next baby shower you host. You may find that this lighthearted approach to a baby shower is just what the doctor ordered for everyone involved.

First of all, your invitations should set the tone for baby shower poetry with a small poem of their own. Tell guests to bring their thinking caps and a copy of their favorite poem. You can use the poems as decorations for the room (printed out nicely on colored paper with a nice font) and give guests something to browse through as they arrive.

Don't limit poetry to fun and festivities though; you can include the wonderful verses in your gift with a photo frame that has been engraved with a special poem or nice framed copies of your favorite baby poem to grace the new baby's wall. You could also have a special photo album created for the mom to be that has a copy of the favorite poems and leaves room for the poems that will be created during the shower.

This of course brings me to the fun and games portion baby showers. For a really neat game that will have all the guests either laughing, crying, or both. You could have each of the guest make up a poem about the new baby or the mother to be. There are no rules about the poem as far as length, sincerity, or humor. The poem can be serious, funny, witty, light hearted, or sappy. It is up to the writer, you can even make a limerick if you are truly brave.

Then, you can have each guest present her baby shower poetry in the form of a scrapbook page (you will supply the necessary equipment of course, which works great for scrapbook enthusiasts) to the future mommy so she will always remember the fun of writing the poem and the friendship and love you all share as she fills the pages with photographs of her new baby. I also recommend having plenty of cameras (either digital or disposable) around so that photographs can be taken and shared among you all. You can also allow each guest to make a scrapbook page of her own with her special poem to take home for her own photographs of the baby shower.

Poetry is an important part of the world's history; it only makes sense to start your baby off on the right foot with a special appreciation for poetry. Be creative when coming up with ideas to include poetry in your baby shower, make it a contest if you have to (that will usually get everyone seriously into the activity) with prizes for the winner to take home. But remember that this is supposed to be a lot of fun as well as a bonding experience for everyone involved so don't take it too seriously. I really like the classic pooh baby shower invitations.
